GORUCK Tough vs Heavy.

Tough-style and Heavy-style rucking events both demand load tolerance, foot care, and team movement. Heavy-style prep usually means longer duration, deeper fatigue, and stricter recovery discipline.

Ruck Mode is not affiliated with GORUCK. Event details can change; always verify requirements with the event organizer.

Tough-style prep

Build reliable loaded miles, basic strength endurance, foot checks, hydration habits, and the ability to keep moving when pace drops.

Heavy-style prep

Extend duration carefully, manage recovery, practice fueling, and use repeat sessions to learn how the load affects you after several hours.

What to track

Pack weight, loaded pace, elapsed time, heart-rate response, route notes, foot issues, and post-session debriefs.
